More refreshing drinks from a super-hot Coastal Empire summer when we all had colds! From August 24, 2012, from New Amsterdam’s Facebook page. I can’t find the recipe online now, though, or I’d link to it.
The Queens Cocktail
2 ounces vodka or gin
4 sprigs cilantro
2 1/2 ounces pineapple juice
2 pinches ground ginger
1/2 oz lime juice
Muddle cilantro (or basil) until juicy, add all other ingredients, shake hard with ice, strain into a martini glass and garnish with a pineapple chunk and cilantro.
I used vodka, and I used 1 1/2 ounces of it (New Amsterdam’s recipes tend to be a little heavy on the alcohol, which can be fun but can mess with the flavor of a drink). I had purchased cilantro that I had intended to use, but when I pulled it out to use it it had gone bad. So we used fresh basil from the backyard. And we COULD have used martini glasses, but had already had a couple drinks that night and didn’t want to create more dishes, so we used the glasses we already had.
This initially felt good since we were all a little congested, but it was a lot of strong flavors and the ginger (we think) started to burn on sore throats. We added a little more pineapple juice, but club soda or sprite might’ve been good, too.
Maybe I’ll have to try it again in the future with the cilantro and some gin. Cheers!
