Drink Recipe – The Electrolyte Cocktail

Another summer drink/cold remedy from Georgia! From August 24, 2012, posted to Facebook by New Amsterdam (but also on their website here).

The Electrolyte Cocktail

2 1/2 ounces gin or vodka (New Amsterdam makes both, so either will work for the recipe – I made it with gin and it works just fine)

1 teaspoon sugar

1 ounce pineapple juice

2 slices fresh watermelon or 2 ounces watermelon juice

splash of lemon juice

pinch of salt (to bring out watermelon flavor)

Muddle watermelon slices and combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker. Add ice, shake vigorously for 8 seconds. Pour contents into a highball glass and garnish with a watermelon slice.

This drink was SUPER strong as written, so I used 1 3/4 ounces of gin instead of the written 2 1/2. I also left out the sugar.

Even then this drink was still pretty strong and the flavor lacked something to make it pop, so I also added 2-3 ounces of Sprite to each one. I really enjoyed it after the modifications I mentioned. And my cold felt much better!
